Regionaal toerisme: ook je job altijd lekker dichtbij

That the klimaatspijbelaars you twice now do the thinking for you airline ticket booking, it is good news for providers of dichtbijvakanties. Tourism East-Flanders is already quite happy with the own backyard. What are the benefits of a regiotoerismejob?

1. Varied

Tourism East-Flanders promotes tourism and supports an entire economic sector by people to the most beautiful spots of East-Flanders, through bike – and wandelnetwerken along cleverly designed nodes. The headquarters of Tourism East-Flanders in Ghent has a 30-odd employees. In addition, there are five regional offices: Meetjesland, Leiestreek, Waasland, Scheldeland and the Flemish Ardennes.

“In our headquarters, we have different teams,” says Jessica Motley, a Consultant and meeting eventsector. “Sectorwerking, accommodation, infrastructure, walking and cycling networks, marketing, research and project coordination. I myself promote the East-Flemish meeting and eventsector companies.”

The service uk has its hands full with the various private publications: “Cycling and walking guides, free maps, StaPaf, our free bicycle – and wandelmagazine that is distributed in 80,000 copies, and an active online community,” clarifies content & community manager Ellen Van Wulpen.

2. Professional

Meetings, events, teambuilding and incentives are very important for regional tourism. “We promote the locations in Ghent and East-Flanders which are suitable for this are,” says Jessica Variegated.

“Foreign companies will find to their liking. We have a separate website and newsletter for our business audience are situated, and we organize ontdekkingsdagen for companies. Through our work, we make companies more familiar in the offer. For the East-Flemish event and meetingaanbieders we organize each year a netwerkmoment and workshops. For example, on social media, to their location or service to promote to businesses”.

3. Creative

“The Flemish Ardennes are just about the jewel in the crown of our walks, but each region has something different to offer,” says Ellen. “Economic diversity is more important than you might think, even if it is for the small café on the hill or farm where ice cream can get. Bike and walking trails, we define so that the tourists there come, so that we local entrepreneurs up to support.”

How to convert the ladies of the regions in the picture? Ellen Van Wulpen: “By region we put extensive bestemmingscampagnes on which we brochures, social media and websites to bet on. Also, influencers and journalists, we will send on the path. The Waasland has just a brand new magazine. At the same time, we have yearly themes such as Plan Beer: brouwerijtje visit, bierroutes bikes… We also have the website Wandelwalhalla for walking in the Flemish Ardennes. There are 850 km of interconnected hiking trails. The Lys, is very idyllic to go bootjevaren and cycling: the Leiestreekfietsroute is our cake topper.”
