Kleuterjuffen be up to their elbows in pampers, by the many instappertjes presented today at the age of 2.5 years still not housebroken. One in eight schools encourages parents why their child is not to start when it is out of the diapers. For the working Group Pre-schools in Flanders, the measure is full. “We ask for years to extra nannies, but politics doesn’t do anything.’
‘We feel almost obligated to parents to ask that their child not come to us when potty training is, ” says director Sylvie Vaubant. “If not, we are more concerned with diapers than with meaningful activities. Also for the child itself, it is not pleasant to be with four, five dirty packs to go home. We ask only to parents of whom we know that they have their child home-care.’
Primary school In Nude in Brussels is not alone. Less than one in eight schools said in a survey of the working Group Kindergartens Flanders only zindelijke toddlers to want. Children, outright reject is not allowed, but according to spokesman Guido Sauwens happens in practice. “Of course the do schools that prefer not to, but by the lack of childcare workers, they have,” he says. ‘Kleuterjuffen are too preoccupied with diapers, accidents, jackets do, mealtimes, and so forth.”
By the ‘desertion’ of the cleanliness is the problem only bigger. Scientific research shows that in the 60’s, even some 90 per cent of the children potty trained was 2.5 years. Today is that only 20 to 30 percent. According to the survey of the working group shows that on average, 58 percent of the instappertjes today is not house trained. In the first kindergarten class – children of 3 to 4 years – it goes to 24 percent.
How come? Parents often both work, so have less time to potjestraining to be doing, and recognize the less likely the signals when their child to the washroom. Not to mention that contemporary comfortable nappies that are all absorbing, in contrast to the wet mess in the cloth diapers of the past.
More childcare workers
In order to solve the problem, argues Sauwens for extra support. Schools now have the right to eight hours of child care as soon as they 35 infants count. That increases by one hour each time there 55 infants recover. In practice, many schools make do with one day of childcare per week. The other days, the teachers are only there for. ‘Only with extra support can be a kleuterjuf strive to achieve the developmental objectives.’
In the future plan for the primary education of the social partners, claimants, there are additional childcare. Question is to what extent the next Flemish government, they will invest. Minister for education Hilde Crevits (CD&V) says 40 million investment in primary education. ‘With a portion of that money, schools can childcare workers to attract, ” she says.
According to professor Alexandra Vermandel (UAntwerpen), specializing in housebreaking, we have the problem at the source address. ‘The training should be much earlier start, ” she says. “We need parents with better information so that they are all around 18 months the potty in a playful way to offer. Also, the nurseries would systematically potty training should provide, in consultation with the parents.”
